When installing new flooring in a condominium, there are several elements to take into consideration. Is the sub floor concrete, or is it plywood? Does your particular condominium project have specific requirements for sound dampening products? Do they require workers with WSIB clearances? These are the types of questions that our qualified staff can assist you with. The team at Flooring By Design is eager to help out with your project and correspond directly with your superintendent or condominium board members to ensure that your project is compliant with their directives.
Traditional floor types such as carpet and vinyl floors certainly make for good choices in this type of space. However, if you would like to have a hard surface type floor, such as hardwood or laminate, there are special requirements in most buildings for these types of floors. Typically, a sound-deadening underlay can be installed that will conform to most building standards.
However, your building code may require a cork underlay for an additional acoustic barrier. In the case of hardwood flooring choices, engineered hardwood is most commonly used for concrete-based sub floors. The engineered hardwood can be glued down or floated above the concrete with the use of a proper underlay. In any event, Flooring By Design can help with whatever floor you choose.
Many owners of condominiums are now choosing cork flooring for its warm feel and shock absorption. Cork floors are quieter than traditional hard surface floors like hardwood, ceramic tile and even vinyl, so they can serve as an excellent choice for new flooring in your condo. Many cork floors are click cork floors and have an attached cork underlay, giving you two layers of cork on either side of an HDF core. They are designed for floating floor installations, and can even be installed over another layer of flooring such as tile or vinyl.
At Flooring By Design we have the experience and product lines to fully implement a quality condo flooring solution for you.
